          "If it be now,
'tis not to come; if it be not to come, it will be
now; if it be not now, yet it will come: the
readiness is all"

-Hamlet
Act 5, Scene 2

Rick says, what the...?

Westboro Tennis at dawn.

Spreading clay.

Monday afternoon. After Westboro.

When do we open Westboro Tennis came in force Monday at dawn and finished laying the clay and rolling and brushing and stroking it, by, like, 9:00. The guys nailed in the lines and the courts are close to ready for play. The rain is delaying our opening a bit, but we expect to be ready to rock by Friday, or maybe Saturday.

We won't begin accepting reservations until the courts are open.

Michelle and David

Michelle and David, well, mostly Michelle, had a baby girl, 8 and a half pounds(!), on April 3. The baby is Audrey Brooke Hemenway. The rascals. Congratulations. (Maybe now Michelle and David will be tired out and someone will beat them, but we doubt it.)

Robert and Nick, working on the courts.

The poles are up. The crew is stringing the cable.

We are planning to bring to CTC the author Marshall Jon Fisher, whose new book, A Terrible Splendor, about a famous 1938 tennis match at Wimbledon between Don Budge and Baron Gottfried von Cramm, Terrible Splendor will be published April 21. The event will be on Wednesday May 13 starting at 6 PM.

The club will host a Meet and Greet party on May 6, from 6-8:00 p.m. The party will present an opportunity to introduce prospective members to the membership committee, club members, and the club.

The club book should be in your hands by now. Much of the information in the book is updated and available on the website.

Some useful links:

Here's a link to the espn site, with pro ranking.

And a club member (let's call him Sol) suggested a link to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. The site is rich.

We still have the tournament draws (from 2001 to 2004) available on-line (including all of the results), thanks to the Java Kid. We are re-locating the links, however.

"On the court, tennis players exchange not only ground strokes but lots of information. It's a richly interactive sport, both verbally and non-verbally. If players communicate clearly, simply, and consistently, the game will proceed more quickly, and with less fuss and misunderstanding. Here are a few guidelines that can make the game more fun, friendly, and fair for all...."

We've had some requests to run Craig Lambert's piece, sampled above, on Tennis Communication. (We'd better leave this link up on the newspage permanently.)
