June is living up to its billing as the busiest month. How busy are we? Way.
Wonderful weather we are having, just wonderful. A problem though: we are in a bit of a drought. The staff is struggling to water the courts enough, what with folks playing on the them continuously. The staff is watering a-way and applying some calcium here and there, tastefully. (Calcium chloride retains water.) If you go out to play on a court that is soaked, it is probable that the staff has been over-zealous.
Family night is Saturday, June 23. Bring the kids. Bring some snacks.
Here is a story: One day last week a worker-bee, a constructicon, from the noisy house across the street came over to tell us that a cement truck was due momentarily and that there was a silver Volvo parked in the truck's spot. The Volvo would be towed unless it was moved forthwith. So two staff members fanned out across the full courts and shouted: anybody own a silver Volvo parked across the street? it's about to be towed. Anybody?
...and the responses were pretty good:
-I have an Audi sportscar, a 2-seater.
-My car is red.
-I have a silver car but it's at home in my garage.
-My wife has the car today.
...and (we can't resist), overheard at the club:
-Every part of me either hurts or doesn't work.
-You must be exhausted. You should leave tomorrow and go to the Vineyard and rest.
-I've come for my directory. (Repeat.)

Scroll down the list of events to find the tournaments listed in the September/October time frame. Singles tournaments are self scheduled, therefore a finished draw is required before matches can start being played. |

Craig Lambert wrote a must-read article for Harvard Magazine about Bruce Wright's take on the 'high set' stance and movement in tennis. The book? Membership for the coming year hasn't been settled, so the book will be a while in the making. In the meantime, the website will be updated as data dribbles in.
We are going to try out a new feature on the newspage. Let's call it The Book Blurb. The Blurb will note books not necessarily about tennis, but authored by CTC members. So, if you members have recently, or maybe not so recently, written a book that you'd like blurbed, please let us know.

Heady stuff, no?Well, the club's own Bob Doyle who works much magic here behind the scenes tackled this little issue in his book, Free Will: The Scandal in Philosophy. And the club's own Craig Lambert wrote a nifty, readable article for Harvard Magazine on Bob and his place in the free will issue. Take a look at Craig's article,

Take a look at: William P. Homans, Jr., A Life in Court, by Mark S. Brodin. Bill Homans was a long time member of the club with "a storied legal career." A lot of folks at the club knew and liked Bill. He could tell a story or two, couldn't he?
We want to mention New Classic American Houses, a book by Dan Cooper about the architecture of Albert, Righter, and our own John Tittmann. "New Classic American Houses is an architectural page-turner brimming with creative interpretations of traditional forms."
Hot off the presses, a new book by Faith Moore, Celebrating a Life, Planning Memorial Services and Other Creative Remembrances.
