General Tournament Information

Scheduling, Defaults, and Tournament Spirit

All tournament matches are to be played on the scheduled date and time.  If a player is unable to participate on their assigned date and time, for any reason, they will automatically be defaulted.  For all singles and all senior tournaments, prior to the finals, matches will be self-scheduled.  This will necessitate cooperation (and, at times, compromise) among the various players.  Please adopt the friendly and cooperative spirit of the tournaments to ensure that these matches conclude within the assigned dates since defaults will be assigned if scheduling conflicts are unable to be resolved.  Please also respect the fact that the tournament organizers’ responsibilities do not include self-scheduling issues and conflicts.

Scheduling Specifics

Singles, Senior Singles & Senior Mixed Doubles:  All preliminary matches for the singles, senior singles and senior doubles tournaments will be self-scheduled online.  The finals for the consolation and main draws will be scheduled on the dates identified above.  Entrants should expect to play their first singles matches in July while all other rounds will have deadlines listed and scheduled on the tournament draw.

If there are more than 16 entries for the draw, the “Round of 32” will have to play their first match by July 14th.  For singles tournaments with draws of 16 or fewer entries, the first match (Round of 16) will have to be played by July 28th.

Doubles: The Men’s and Women’s doubles and mixed doubles tournaments will be automatically scheduled (by the Tennis Committee) on the specified tournament weekends. The senior mixed doubles tournament will be self-scheduled.  However, if the size of the draw is markedly different than anticipated, the Tennis Committee may elect to modify the format (e.g., the first round could be self-scheduled prior to the weekend tournament).  Final format will be posted in the clubhouse and emailed to participants as soon as possible after the signup deadline.  All participants will play at least two matches as all tournaments, self-scheduled or not, will have a consolation draw. Any player that loses their first match will have an opportunity to keep playing in the consolation draw until a second loss.

Deadlines: Friday, June 9th for the member-guest mixed doubles tournament and Sunday, July 9th for all others.

Cost: The cost for each player is $30 ($60 per team) which will include a minimum of two matches, a can of balls for each tournament match, a light breakfast, lunch, and prizes for winners.  Rain dates will be scheduled as necessary.  All entrants will be charged the full entry fee regardless of any change in scheduling, unless the entrant has removed their entry a minimum of 14 days before the tournament date.  All members, including junior family members, are welcome to participate in the tournaments.

Booking tournament matches: Court bookings may be made seven days in advance by calling the club.  The club can accommodate a maximum of two Prime Time Tournament courts total per evening.  Please note that booking a tournament match in Prime Time counts toward one’s weekly Prime Time limit.

Format:

Singles Tournaments
Women’s, Men’s, Senior Women’s and Senior Men’s Singles:

Format: Matches are to be self-scheduled for 90 minutes within a 2-hour time frame (warm-up 15 minutes, play 90 minutes, play a tiebreaker, if necessary).  Play 2 out of 3 sets, add scoring, a standard 12 point tiebreaker (first to 7 points by two) at 6-6 games each.  If a third set is unfinished when time runs out, finish the game started then sum the total games won to determine the winner. If the total games won are tied at the end of the 90 minutes, play a 12 point tiebreaker (first to 7 points by two) to determine the winner.  The semi-finals and finals play out a full best of 3 sets and will occur during the scheduled championship weekends.  (Required minimum of 4 players and maximum of 32 players)

Doubles Tournaments

Member-Guest Mixed Doubles:

(Professional Tennis players or Tennis Coaches are excluded from participating as this is a social event).

Format: All matches will be automatically scheduled and played during the reserved tournament weekend.  The general format for the doubles matches will be played as pro sets with no-add scoring.  The details for the specific format of play will be decided by the Tennis Committee once the exact number of teams are known to ensure a competitive and spirited tournament.  (Required minimum of 8 teams and maximum of 16 teams)

Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles:

Format: All matches will be automatically scheduled (by the Tennis Committee) and played during the specified tournament weekends.  The doubles matches leading up to the semifinals will be played as 10-game pro sets, with add scoring, and a standard 12-point tiebreaker (first to 7 points by two) to be played at 10-10. The finals for both the consolation and main draws will be played by the same rules as the singles matches defined above.  (Required minimum of 8 teams and maximum of 16 teams)

Senior Mixed Doubles:

Combined age MUST be 125 years of age or more within 2017 (no individual age requirement).  For every 5 additional years (i.e. combined age 130) the doubles team will be able to claim 1 point at any time, during each set played.

Example: Your team has a combined age of 130-134; this entitles you to a 1 point per set (only 1 point per set, no carry-overs). The game score is “your advantage”; you choose to claim your free point before the next point starts and the game is then won. A combined age of 135-139 entitles your team to 2 points per set (no carry-overs). And so on

Format: Same as stated in the member singles tournaments above. (Required minimum of 4 teams and maximum of 16 teams).

Note: The club was founded in 1954 and presumably has held some tournaments every year since. We know that there were years in which only a few tournaments took place. In 2005 the club held only one tournament. A complete record of club tournaments is nowhere to be found. We have been able to piece together an incomplete record and we are posting it here on the website to acknowledge tournament winners. We need help in filling in the record. If you can fill in any of the blanks, please contact Joe at the club or by email.

LADDER RULES

Starting in the Spring, the club will have a women and a men singles ladder. Take advantage of this opportunity to meet more players and challenge your game. There is no cost to join the ladder and rules are very simple. Matches will start June 1st.

How it works:

Players will all start equal, at the bottom of the pyramid, and will challenge someone to a match. The winner will move up a level and the loser will remain on the same level. From then on you will be able to challenge players on your own level or one level above. You will challenge an opponent to a match and make your own court reservation for 1 hour. Warm-up will be 10 minutes including serves. Play no-ad scoring and at 6-6 in any set play a 5-point tiebreaker (2-2-2-3), first to 5 points wins the set with a score of 7-6 for the set. Win 2 out of 3 sets to win the match. If the match is not finished at the end of the hour, the winner will be the player who won the most games. Each player brings a can of new balls, one is opened to play the match and the winner takes the unopened can. You must play at least one match every 3 weeks. If you don’t play for more than 3 weeks your name will be removed from the ladder. If you rejoin the ladder at any point in the season, you will restart at Level 1.

The ladder will be posted on the bulletin board of the club as well as on the club website and will be updated every week.

Sign-up sheets are on the porch bulletin board.
