Weather and Tennis: Remember how brief and exquisite Spring can be hereabouts? A few perfect days. We're having, right now, a brief, exquisite Summer. Geez, the courts are wonderful now. And no one is around. Parking spaces abound. You can get a court almost any time, especially on the weekend. The sweet life. Makes you smile to walk through the gate. Makes you smile to hit a ball. Doesn't it?
Website Note from Bob Doyle:
The latest version of the web site software (0.9) has some nifty new features, though some may take a little learning. And it will probably need some debugging (sigh!).
The EVENTS link now shows events for the upcoming week. We could list more events, like board and committee meetings. Send event suggestions to the webmaster.
The MEMBERS link now asks for your password and goes straight to Search for Members. You can get information for any members who check a box to make their club directory information available. Unfortunately, few have done this at the moment. If you show yours, we'll show ours.
To check your information and make it visible to members (behind a password of course so nothing is public), click on the new timeLines link and log on to the private web site. Once you're there, you get the Welcome page with the big yellow tennis ball. Select Welcome > Edit Personal Info from the drop-down menus at the top of the page.
Here's a link that will take you directly to your own personal info.
You will see empty check boxes next to your email, phone, and address (taken from the club directory). Check any or all of these that you want other members to find when they search.
You may also enter multiple emails, phone numbers (home, work, cell, fax, etc.) , addresses (home, business, vacation, etc.), and even multiple names.
Why multiple names? So Richards can enter Dick and they will be found when we search on Dick.
You can even invent a "handle" or alias and then make it the name that appears in the club reservation schedule. Then only you and your friends will know that's you on the courts.
How do you add extra names and phones? Click on the links that say Add/Edit Name, Add/Edit Phone, etc. in the Edit Personal Info dialog.
To set one of these names as your pseudonymous "handle" and indicate the email for club members to use, select Welcome > Edit Personal Settings from the drop-down menus.
Here's a link that will take you directly to your personal settings.
These new capabilities came from suggestions of the web site committee and are now requirements of the Board of Governors.

Solicitations: Any comments on the above? Any suggestions for the website? for the newspage?
We've been running the above solicitation for a while and we've been getting some responses.
A member who goes by the handle ctc_richard, sent us an address of what looks to be a big, comely tennis site that you might take a look at. Tennis Server has a column by Ron Waite called Turbo Tennis. Click on Waite's 'Current Column' and if you like what you see, click on the 'Turbo Tennis Archive' on the left-hand column.
A member (who, we suspect, has a Monster Book of Quotations in his lap at all times) sent in a quotation from a chessmaster that applies to tennis: "The mistakes are all there waiting to be made."
The same member sent in these quotes (about Life as well as tennis):
"One day you're the windshield, the next day you're the bug."
"One day you're King Kong, the next day you're Fay Wray."
Court Conditions: Loverly.
The time and temperature icon is a link to a Boston weather site. Give it a click.
Joe DeBassio Webmaster.
Website Note: The honey-comb icon is also a link. It takes the clicker to an archive of all the past news pages so's you can catch up on what you missed while you were visiting friends on the Vineyard or frolicking in Oblivia. The less-than link (<) next to the honeycomb icon will take you to yesterday's page.
