Court conditions: We're running out of superlatives. Swell? Grand?

Summer is narcosis? Nope, not here. The club is having a flurry of action lately. The courts are busy as can be, even on weekends in July. The tournaments are rolling (there have been some mighty dramatic matches). The round robins are subscribed and over-subscribed. And now, there's a Tango Night. Yup, right here at the club. Sunday, July 29. The sign-up sheet is on the porch bulletin board.

Round Robin: The next round robin, a catered affair, is scheduled for Tuesday, July 24. Tennis starts at 6:00.

Tournaments

The club's tournaments are raging. (Please try to get those early rounds played: the defaulting bell could toll for you.)

Many, many thanks to Kathy Komputerheroine, we have the tournament draws on-line. They are mostly up-to-date. You might help us keep the draws up to date by notifying the webmaster (see way below) of match results. (We won't post scores, just results.)

New Orchestra

Charles Ansbacher, a summer member here at the club, is leading a new orchestra, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, in a series of free, outdoor concerts this summer. Charles is the conductor and founder of the orchestra. Their first concert received raves. ("Good and not overly familiar music, masterfully performed." -Boston Phoenix) The Orchestra has a wonderful website that tells us about Charles and the Orchestra and its schedule.

Youth Member-guest Round Robin: There is a youth member-guest round robin scheduled for Saturday, July 28, from 4:00 to 6:30. The sign-up sheet is on the porch bulletin board.

Summer Membership: Summer membership began on July 1. Welcome to the club. Welcome to the season. You might chat with the staff person on duty about scheduling courts and making out chits and other mechanics. You might also consider coming to Sunday pick-up doubles and week-day round robins to meet players.

Junior Membership began on July 1. Welcome to the club. Welcome to the season. See above.

Solicitations: Want a forum? Try us. The news page is always glad to have your thoughts on the club, on the website, on tennis: diatribes, declarations, declamations, decorations, one-liners, well-thought-out essays, cryptic exclamations, gnomic revelations, hortatory explanations.

Reservations Note: While the CTC website has the capacity to handle on-line reservations, the efficacy of deploying the system is still being debated by the tennis club Board. So, if you click on Reservation Requests, you can see the system, but it is not active. Stay posted.

Take a look at what was going on at the club at this time last year.

The Yearbook link will take you to the last newspage from 2000. From there you can see the whole of the Persistent Archive of last year's news.

Website Note II: The honey-comb icon is also a link. It takes the clicker to an archive of all the past news pages so that you can read the news pages for the whole year (2001). The less-than link (<) next to the honeycomb icon will take you to yesterday's News.
