Tennis Club News

November 2, 2001

Autumn leaves, the chemistry of:

Why do leaves change color? Find out here. (We found this item in the archives and it seemed like such fun, we are re-running it.)

Wrong! A club member who is a chemist reports that the molecular formula for carotene given in the linked-to site is wrong. The correct formula is C40H56, not C40H36. Our chemist thinks that the mistake was probably just a typo. (Phew.)

Other scholarly club news: We asked a club member who teaches at a local university what he thought about recent events.
-Worrisome, he replied, without any discernible hesitation.

Correspondents' alert: Want to be a reporter? All you have to do is report.

We have reports on the Closing Party. (Thanks to our readers for reporting in.) The report: 85 to 90 hungry members showed up and partied down. Rick Rose was lauded and applauded. The speeches were pithy.

Tournaments

We'll leave the tournament draw up for the rest of the year.

Thanks to folks who have kindly called or e'd results.

Reservations Note: While the CTC website has the capacity to handle on-line reservations, the efficacy of deploying the system is still being debated by the tennis club Board. (Must be some debate.) So, if you click on Reservation Requests, you can see the system, but it is not active.

Take a look at what was going on at the club at this time last year. (More of that pernicious poetry that raised so many eyebrows last year.)

Website Note II: The honey-comb icon is also a link. It takes the clicker to an archive of all the past news pages so that you can read the news pages for the whole year (2001). The less-than link (<) next to the honeycomb icon will take you to the last issue of the news.
