The new season has begun. Tennis returns.
The courts are a bit soft, though. A little rain closes them. And in spite of the famous drought, a little rain falls most every night. So the courts are open for a while, and closed for a while. When the sun is out, you can almost feel the courts drying out, firming up. Come play.
Welcome to the new season.
The new members for 2002 are:
A sad note: Elizabeth Homans died on April 8, 2002. 'Libby' was a long-time member of the club and the ex-wife of Bill Homans. The newspaper obituary told us that she worked in Romania after WWII with the Allied Control Commission and was sentenced to death in absentia by the Communist government. More recently, she was active in the Cambridge Art Association, the Cambridge Garden Club, and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. We remember often seeing her in the neighborhood around the club, walking her dogs, passing a pleasant word.
A funeral service was held on April 15. Our apologies to her family for this late notice.
And our condolences.
Here's some pictures of the work at the club last week. (We'll try to have some new ones soon.)
