Some folks we haven't seen yet this season showed up last week. And, mostly, the club has appeared to be a splendid place to them. (The fine weather hasn't hurt, either.)
-It's heaven here. We are so blessed to be able to play here.-The very air smells sweet.
-The courts are ne plus ultra. (Really, a member said these very words.)
-PINK lemonade? We're drinking pink lemonade? Whose bright idea was that?
There was a story, "The Prior's Room," by Andrea Lee in the New Yorker a few weeks ago. She wrote about something else entirely, but she seemed to describe last week at the Cambridge Tennis Club pretty well:
"...a bouillon of civilization, a concentrated essence.....Paradise - a standard by which sensual well-being will be measured forever afterward...."
We agree, we agree.
The first Holiday cookout of the season is coming up on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27.
(A holiday cookout is one of the most sociable events at the CTC: all day, all court pick-up doubles, AND a potluck-barbecue. A tennis festival, a jamboree, a revel. The Club supplies burgers, dogs, beer, and sodas, and sometimes a turkey.)
There is a potluck part to the party. We hope you will complete our menu by bringing (according to the first initial of your last name):
(David H., please skip the above suggestions and bring your usual extravagant offering. But please observe all other suggestions and rules rigidly.)
Quiet now, but soon...
The CTC Women's Team played last Thursday against the Dover Town Team. CTC won 3 out of the 4 matches. CTC women have won 12 out of 20 matches this year, and a team member reports that this year's team has great spirit, great camaraderie. The team plays its last home match on June 6, at 9:00.
Go team.
Rick Rose's Doubles Clinics started this week, and will continue for a while on Mondays and Wednesdays, pending input from attendees and potential attendees.
He's accepting feedback.
The clinics run from 10:00 to 11:30 and cost $14.00. And they are very popular. Check them out.
