Not this Frost: | ![]() |
This frost: | ![]() |
The courts are frosting over some nights, many nights. The sun is melting the frost. On some of these warm, sunny afternoons, the courts are puddled up. And closed.
(On Friday, at noon, 50 degrees out, and almost the entire surface of the courts was covered with water.)
The weather report for the weekend sounds fabulous for tennis, but....
Please call the clubhouse for current conditions.
Frost and meltage permitting, we're open until November 15. (Folks who haven't played here in 6 weeks will show up and protest our precipitous closing date. Happens every year, seasonally.)
Marvin and Marcia sent this along from Florida, where they seem to be settling in rather than basking:
Ode to the Tennis Club (or, Limericks run amuck)
There once was a club, CTC,
Where tennis was played genteelly.
On Mt. Auburn it sat
With its Swiss-style hat,
And the members would rally daily.
There is Stanley and Norman and Peter, of course,
Ole Roger and Leston and Ronnie’s brute force.
Ed, Dave, Chick and Jim
All helped keep Marvin slim,
As he played them without remorse.
There’s Susan, Ruth, Mary and Joes, galore,
Harriet, Bob, Bill and Diane for sure.
The round robins are great
We can all relate,
But on holidays the wait list’s a bore.
See Barbara and Kevin and Jeff and Jessie,
And Kathy, Michelle and Portia make three.
They won’t wait for long
To find a fourth who is strong,
While Sarah keeps pruning her tree.
There is Richard and Emmy and Toby and Wendy,
And Southie and all of the tennis committee.
The Pres is Panico
Who prefers tennis to RICO,
And who makes the Club oh so friendly.
There is always a smile on Joe’s welcoming face
And Bill, Phil and Rick always act with good grace.
Lucy’s fines are unique.
The Club’s tres fantastique,
A most wonderful Cantabrigian space.
THE END OF THE SEASON PARTY takes place on Monday, November 11, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The party will feature wine, beer, soft drinks and Gourmet Nibbles. Tournament winners will be announced. |
Rick Rose's Doubles Clinics and Kids' Clinics are "iffy," or lately, "way iffy" due to the frost and cold weather. (Rick is game, but attendance has dropped off.) Please call the clubhouse if you are still interested.
When the clinics run, they run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:30 and cost $14.00.

Here's the saga of last year's tournaments:
Here's a link to the espn site, with pro ranking.
Take a look
Website Update: Members, and Reservation Requests are not active parts of the site nowadays. Timelines is not for civilians.
The Governors and committees page, the Activities page (round robins, tournaments, etc), and the Rules page have all been updated. We thank the folks who have kindly done some on-line proofreading. And we solicit any additional proofreading. Or comments. Or essays, rhapsodies, haiku, bulletins, rants, objections. Or praise. Especially items that we might actually put up on the page. Anonymity is assured.
The Yearbook link will take you to the last newspage from 2001. From there you can see the whole of the Persistent Archive of last year's news.
Website Note: The time and temperature icon below is a link to a Boston weather site.
Joe DeBassio, Webmaster
Website Note II: The honey-comb icon is also a link. It takes the clicker to an archive of all the past news pages so that you can read the news pages for the whole year (2001). The less-than link (<) next to the honeycomb icon will take you to the last issue of the newspage.
The letters below will waft the clicker to a translation program, so that you can see these deathless words translated to wonderfully unidiomatic French, Italian, etc. (It's a toy. Some of us love toys, still, and some of us love to click.)
