What is going on with all the construction?

Wellllll...The old porch was demolished, root and stem, last Fall. In the course of demolition and rebuilding, lots of dirt was washed into the gravel path in front of the porch and the gravel in front of the garden. The gravel acts as a sort of catch basin for rain and is part of the drainage system. So...the dirt-clogged gravel is being replaced with new, clean, tasty, smaller gravel. And while the constructicons are at it, they are re-configuring the path and lining it with new borders. Shortly after the path is finished, work on the CTC entranceway will begin.

What's wrong with this picture?

We did play some tennis. (Bend and blast.)

On Thursday, May 27, the First Round Robin. will take place. It will be a catered affair. (We love saying that phrase.) Tennis starts at 6:00 p.m.

On Monday, May 31, the club will host one of its fabled events, the Memorial Day Potluck-Barbecue-Round Robin. The club, as usual, will supply basics: burgers, dogs, beer, tonic, and if the weather isn't too hot, a turkey. Please help us out by contributing salad if your name begins: A-G, by bringing fruit or fruit juice (not lemonade, please) if your name starts with the letters H-O, dessert or something sweet if P-Z. (David, your exemption to these suggestions is permanent. Please bring your usual treat.)

Special Holiday rules apply: Playtime is limited to 45 minutes. We'll play according to a round robin format.

Take a look

at what was happening at this time last year. (A nifty, we think, animation.)

We are leaving the tournament draws up. And again we'll offer our thanks to our Anonymous Friend, the Java Kid, for posting them and keeping them up to date.

Tournaments

And here's the saga of last year's tournaments (so's we can compare and contrast):

And the saga of the year before (we're mighty fancy here, and mighty grateful to the Java Kid for doing all this work):

Phew.

Here's a link to the espn site, with pro ranking.

And a club member (let's call him Sol) suggests a link to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. The site is rich.

A reader writes "....to inform the members that the Newport grass court tournament will run from July 5-11 ; that James Blake and Vincent Spadea have signed on; and that Sunday 7/11 is already sold out."

As noted, the CTC book for 2004 is available. Much of the information in the book may now be found here on the website. The information is current. The waiting list for membership, as well as a list of new members is up to date. That information can be found through the 'FAQ' page. The Activites Page (round robins, tournaments, etc) is also up to date. The Rules page is also up to date and we have been urged to urge our readers to "review the rules and refresh their memories on some of the finer points."

'Members', and' Reservation Requests' are not active parts of the site nowadays. 'Timelines' is for adepts.

The Yearbook link will take you to the last newspage from 2003. From there you can see the whole of the Persistant Archive of last year's news.

Website Note: The time and temperature icon below is a link to a Boston weather site.

Joe DeBassio, Webmaster,

Website Note II: The honey-comb icon is also a link. It takes the clicker to an archive of all the past news pages so that you can read the news pages for the whole year (2001). The less-than link (<) next to the honeycomb icon will take you to the last issue of the newspage.
