      "....now let not Nature's hand
Keep the wild flood confined! let order die!"

-King Henry IV, Part ii
Act 1, Scene 1

Pictures, we have many pictures.

5-17-06

Rick mans the big pump.

5-18-06

Bill tunes the big pump.

5-18-06

About 7 inches of water were pumped out, but then...

Busted!

We were visited by assertive fellows from the MWRA and the City of Cambridge, Dept. of Inspectional Services. They didn't think that we should pump water into the street. In the above picture, Bill is scratching his head, explaining that he does not know anything about any pumps or any laws. The fellows were not convinced.

Longfellow Park is flooded. If and when we get rid of 'our' water, we expect a lot of seepage from Mr. Longfellow. Perhaps Bill could complain to the Dept. of Inspectional Services?

5-19-06: the if and when issue.

The New Members party is scheduled for this coming Sunday, May 21, from 5:00 to 7:00. Please come and welcome our new members and see old friends.

The first round robin of the year is scheduled for May 24, a Wednesday. The meal will be catered.

Tom, our friend and club staff member, has some serious health problems and some...attendant financial difficulties. (He is currently on a medical leave of absence.) If you would like to help, please contact Len Singer, or a member of the staff. (Also, please check out the new website feature, the President's Corner.)

The Badminton and Tennis Club closed last week after completing a raft of tournaments. The B and T shares some members with the CTC. Some of our members did very well in the B and T's very competitive tournaments. Congratulations to Sarah Carter Clunan who won the Women's A Singles, to Esther Williams and Jessie von Hippel who won the Women's 50's Doubles, to Jim Baldwin (partnered with non-CTC member Lindsay Frazier) who was a finalist in the Mixed B Doubles, to Vicky McEvoy and Jeff Millman who were finalists in the Mixed 50's Doubles, and to Esther and Jessie (again, always) who were finalists in the Women's A Doubles. All of these tournaments had big draws and many strong players.

The club book is back from the printer and should be in your mailbox soon. Meanwhile, much of the book's information is now available on the website. (Thanks to Sheila and Ann for getting the info to us in a timely fashion.) Events, Rules, Governors and Committees are all updated, as is the New Members List. When is the first Round Robin?,

The website has a long overdue new feature: a Champions Page. Check it out.

The website has another important feature, the President's Corner. Check it out.

We still have the tournament draws (from 2001 to 2004) available on-line (including all of the results), thanks to the Java Kid. We are re-locating the links, however.

"On the court, tennis players exchange not only ground strokes but lots of information. It's a richly interactive sport, both verbally and non-verbally. If players communicate clearly, simply, and consistently, the game will proceed more quickly, and with less fuss and misunderstanding. Here are a few guidelines that can make the game more fun, friendly, and fair for all...."

We've had some requests to run Craig Lambert's piece, sampled above, on Tennis Communication. (We'd better leave this link up on the newspage permanently.)

Take a look

at what was happening at this time last year.

Some useful links:

And here's a link to the espn site, with pro ranking.

And a club member (let's call him Sol) suggested a link to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. The site is rich.

Website note:
The new club directory is, as we say, on the way. The website does have this year's info.

'Members', and' Reservation Requests' are not active parts of the site nowadays. 'Timelines' is for adepts.

Yearbook link will take you to the last newspage from 2005. From there you can see the whole of the Persistent Archive of last year's news.

Website Note: The time and temperature icon below is a link to a Boston weather site.

Website Note II: The honey-comb icon is also a link. It takes the clicker to an archive of all the past news pages so that you can read the news pages for the whole year (2004). The less-than link (<) next to the honeycomb icon will take you to the last issue of the newspage.
